Best Travel Products: Safety Gadgets
With more solo trips this year, I became more intentional about staying safe, wherever I am. In addition to starting self-defense classes, I found two travel-specific products that really stood out to me.
T01 Smart Camera Detector

After reading a disturbing article about hidden cameras in hotels and Airbnbs (it’s more common than you probably want to think), I immediately purchased a camera detector.
I did my research and ended up grabbing the T01 Smart Camera Detector from Amazon because of its good reviews and wide range of uses.
It can detect cameras, GPS trackers, and recording devices, using frequency detection and infrared laser scanning. The very first thing I did was test it out at home, and it worked phenomenally. I tested it with my phone and GoPro, and it found both devices. You need to thoroughly sweep each room (check lamps, alarm clocks, outlets, vents, etc.), but you’ll be able to find any invasive devices, especially with 5 levels of sensitivity.
This has given me a lot of peace of mind as I travel, knowing my privacy is protected! And at only $20, it’s a great deal.
STOP Self-Defense Powder

I understand why TSA and other security don’t allow self-defense weapons. Unfortunately, that leaves a lot of people vulnerable when they need protection the most.
That’s where STOP comes in. This new brand solves this problem with a self-defense weapon that can go anywhere as a food-grade powder!
STOP’s powder is made with the same peppers used in pepper spray, but it’s powdered rather than aerosolized. This allows it to pass through any security screening without triggering sensors. It even comes packaged like food, with nutrition facts on the back and a sealed top.
Once you pass through security or arrive at your destination, remove the plastic seal so it’s ready to go if needed. To use the powder, you just pop off the cap and toss the powder directly into your assailant’s face. It has the same effect as pepper spray, giving you time to get to safety.

Dududu Travel Eyelash Curler

Over a year ago, I ditched my traditional eyelash curler in lieu of a heated version. It made a huge difference in how well my eyelashes stayed curled throughout the day. And when my eyelashes look good, I feel much more put together.
With my heated curler, my eyelashes will literally stay put through red-eye flights, sweaty hikes, and full days of exploring. However, my heated curler is slightly bulky. It’s not awful, but I have to arrange my beauty bag in a certain way to make sure it fits, and I’m always a little worried it might get damaged in transit.
Enter the DUDUDU Heated Travel Eyelash Curler. This adorable mini curler is just 4” tall and comes in 4 different colors. It offers 2 heat settings and is ready in just 10 seconds for a 24-hour curl.
I also love that the cushion changes colors from pink to white to indicate when it’s ready to use, and the clamping handle stows away into the curler’s body when you don’t need it.

One of my favorite items I discovered this year was this refillable perfume dispenser. Because many “travel-sized” perfumes and sprays are still too big for a 411 bag (or so bulky it’s not worth it), I typically use sample-sized sprays when I travel. But I don’t always like the scent, and sometimes they run out partway through the trip.
But this—this is perfect.
Kuangre’s refillable perfume bottles come in a beautiful little case about the size of a lipstick tube. The bottle can be removed completely from the shell for refills, but it pops back in tightly for a leak-free, shock-proof fit. It’s so easy to refill, so I can top it off as needed before trips. I also love to keep it in my purse and gym bag for quick touch-ups throughout the day.
I honestly wish I’d gotten one of these much sooner, because for $10, it’s made my life so much more convenient!

Brands are continually introducing new suitcases and packing accessories, but many are all looks and no substance. So when I find something that actually helps me pack more or better, I have to share it with you all!
Travel Inspira Vacuum Packing Bags

I love packing compression packing cubes, especially during winter, because they help me pack so much more. And they’re great for organization. But Travel Inspira’s travel vacuum bags take things to the next level!
These vacuum packing bags have so many great features, starting with how much they can hold. They claim to hold 3 days of clothes, but I’ve fit a week’s worth of winter clothes in here, then vacuumed them down to a size that fits in a personal bag. Not a carry-on. A personal bag.
I also love that the airtight zipper and TPU material make the bags fully waterproof. So whether your luggage gets into an unfortunate rainstorm or you decide to use the included shoulder straps to carry these bags as a duffel instead, your items stay completely safe.

I’ve been taking more trips in my car this fall, so I’ve been looking for ways to make road trips more comfortable, convenient, and safe. Out of everything, these have made my life so much better!
VacLife Portable Air Compressor

I bought this VacLife car tire pump on a whim, and I am so glad I did! I have gotten so much use out of it over the past few months, especially with the winter chill constantly lowering my tire pressure.
It’s given me more peace of mind anytime my low tire light comes on. Instead of searching for a gas station with an air pump (and hoping it’s in working order), I can just pull over at any safe location and take care of it.
The pump has a built-in pressure reader that displays the PSI, BAR, KPA, or KG/CM on the screen. You can use the + and – buttons to set your desired pressure, and the pump will automatically shut off when it reaches the correct pressure. There’s even a built-in flashlight so you can easily find the tire valves in the dark.
It works very quickly, and the 9-foot cord makes it easy to reach both tires on each side. Obviously, it won’t fix a flat caused by damage, but it prevents one from occurring due to low tire pressure.
Plus, it’s only $15 on Walmart.com right now (the normal price is $25). It’s worth every penny.
Frost Buddy To-Go Buddy

There are so many different tumblers on the market right now. Everyone has their preferences, but they’re usually driven by aesthetics or trends. Personally, these FrostBuddy To-Go Buddies are being overlooked.
Now, To-Go Buddy can be used as a standard, double-walled vacuum-seal tumbler that keeps contents cold for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 6 hours. The leak-proof lid features a flip-top sipper option and an optional straw hole with a silicone seal.
